About CounselingSchools.net

CounselingSchools.net helps prospective students find and compare counseling degrees offered by US universities — clinical mental health, school, addiction, rehabilitation, and marriage, couple and family counseling at the master's level, counselor education doctorates, and bachelor's degrees in counseling. You can browse by degree level, specialty, format and state, see which programs are CACREP-accredited, check campus-visit and practicum requirements, read editorial selections with the evidence behind them, and compare up to four programs side by side without creating an account.

What we are — and are not

We are an independent directory. We are not a university, an accrediting agency, a licensing board or an application-processing service, and we do not decide admissions, licensure eligibility or offer admissions consulting. Apply directly on each university's official website, and confirm licensure requirements with the licensing board of the state where you intend to practice.

How the directory is built

Candidate schools come from federal IPEDS completions data for counseling fields and from the CACREP directory. A program is listed only after we confirm on the university's own pages that its awarded degree is a counseling degree within our scope. Each fact — specialty, format, campus visits, practicum and internship, credits, admissions, tests, deadlines, tuition, licensure disclosures — carries the official page it came from and a verbatim quote that is re-checked on the live page before publication. CACREP status comes from CACREP's own directory and is matched program by program. Details are in our editorial methodology and on the data sources page.

Editorial independence

Directory pages are listed alphabetically by default. Our “Best” pages are editorial selections against published criteria, with evidence for every entry. Universities can buy clearly labelled sponsored placements; payment never changes facts, verification status, selections or the order of results. See the sponsorship disclosure.

Coverage

Coverage is partial and growing. We started with a bounded set of schools researched in depth and add more through the same verification workflow. If an eligible counseling degree is missing, tell us about it; if a fact is out of date, suggest an update.
